Finding the best mattress brand is considered a big concern for many American households, especially for back sleepers. Sleeping on your back is rare, but this position does have certain medical advantages – the natural arrangement of the neck, back and spine being one. A good mattress can help to decrease back pain, and other aches, as well as to relieve pressure points of the body. A great advantage is also the lack of additional pillow, since back sleepers, unlike those who sleep on the side and stomach, don’t need any extra pillows to be comfortable. However, many use a thicker pad to reduce snoring.

The optimal mattress for back sleepers needs to provide an even and steady surface that will not sag under weight. Because of this, the perfect firmness option for most back sleepers is a Medium or a Medium Firm model. Lighter individuals might prefer gentler surfaces, while those with more weight often prefer sleeping on firmer surfaces.

A well-regarded and popular brand name in the mattress industry is the Tempur-Pedic. The Swedish company was established in 1992, and known for providing high-quality and money-worth mattresses that will provide pleasurable relief and comfort. They helped popularize mattresses made of memory foam, and today they offer eleven models with memory foam in their comfort layers. The majority of the models are all divided into Contour, Cloud, and Adapt, but there is one standalone luxury model – Grandbed. Two of the models from the Adapt collection are also available to consumers as high-quality memory foam hybrids. The construction of all the models is very durable with excellent response to pressure, motion isolation, and minimal sound production.

TEMPUR-Adapt

Highlights

The TEMPUR-Adapt is a model from the Adapt series that can be found in two distinct designs – all-foam and hybrid model. The all-foam Adapt has a comfort layer made of memory foam and a support core made of high-density polyfoam. The hybrid also has a comfort layer made of memory foam, but the support core is made of pocketed coils. However, both of them are a Medium, or a 5 on the firmness scale, which makes this model great for people with 130 to 230 pounds. The weight of the bed depends on the type – all-foam weighs 79 pounds and hybrids have 96 pounds. With the mattress, comes 120-month warranty, 90-day sleep trial, and free White Glove Delivery for any location in the U.S.

It has a knit cotton and dual-layer SmartClimate cooling cover which helps sleepers maintain the ideal temperature needed for a comfortable sleep during the night. The construction is very simple, as it has only three layers below the cover. The foundation is made of one thousand individually wrapped coils, minimizes motion transfer and provides quality support. The top layer is made of memory foam. It provides an in-depth and soft feel, while the transition layer has a firmer and denser foam that ensures the sleeper does not feel the coils located underneath. Around the perimeter is a dense foam layer.

The mattress offers excellent conforming – it hugs the body, but it does not sink deeply into the bed. It also provides great relief for those who have problems with frequent pains and aches in their back, neck, or shoulders. The hybrid model has powerful air circulation that ensures temperature neutrality during the entire night, while all-foam versions are perfect for couples since they don’t make any sound when weight is applied.

The TEMPUR-Adapt is the best value mattress with its low price – it is the lowest among Tempur-Pedic models. The current price is $2,199 for a Queen size. However, keep in mind it is more expensive than other all-foam models, so it is a good choice for shoppers who have a bigger budget.

TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt

Highlights

The TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt is one of the newest Tempur-Pedic models and among the best luxury models. The main advantage of the model lies in its motion isolation abilities – it does a great job absorbing and minimizing transfer to a great extent. It can be found in two firmness options – Soft, or 3 and Firm, or 7 on the firmness scale. The weight of the bed is 94 pounds, while the height is thirteen inches. The mattress is built from two layers of different foams that are made by the company. It has a 90-day sleep trial and a 120-month limited warranty, with free White Glove delivery available.

The entire bed is wrapped in a Tempur-Pedic material – their proprietary SMART CLIMATE Dual cover system. The top of the bed is a cover made from a combination of phase-change material (PCM) – woven with special fibers for extra cooling and temperature regulation capabilities, and polyester. The cover is stretchy and breathable, but it can also mitigate the overheating problems memory foam has. The foundation is made of high-density polyfoam that provides additional cushioning. The comfort layer is made from the brand’s special Tempur-ES foam. This foam offers a slow response to pressure, which is an excellent feature for better conforming and sinkage. The material is similar to memory foam, with its gentle and soft, plush feel. It will conform to every curve of your body without allowing you to get trapped in the foam. Under this layer is a contour layer made from another material created by the brand – Tempur-APR+. It has a slightly tighter cell construction because it was designed to offer intense body-contouring that will pull the sleeper further into the bed and provide great relief to the hips and shoulders.

Like all other Tempur-Pedic models, the bed will give you great spinal alignment, excellent pressure relief, and superior contouring, with extraordinary motion isolation. Since it is a luxury model, the price is more expensive than Tempur models, with $3,999 for a Queen size bed.

TEMPUR-ProAdapt

Highlights

The TEMPUR-ProAdapt, just like the Adapt, is available in two designs – as an all-foam or hybrid bed. The all-foam model is available in different firmness options – Soft or 3, Medium or 5, and Firm or 7 on the firmness scale, but the hybrid can be bought in Medium or 5. Another difference is in the support cores – the hybrid has a support core made of pocketed coils, unlike the all-foam, which has a support core made of foam of course. With the wide range of firmness options and choice of design, the mattress is suitable for back sleepers of all weight groups. The bed weighs 100 pounds, and it comes with a 120-month warranty and 90-day sleep trial.

Both versions have a dual-layer SmartClimate cover that gives the sleeper excellent cooling and temperature regulation. The foundation of the bed consists of pocketed coils that minimize motion transfer, while giving proper support. The top layer is made of memory foam, and it gives a soft feel. The transition layer in between has a firmer and denser foam that ensures that the sleeper does not feel the coils below. Both offer high-quality body conforming and proper pressure relief.

The biggest benefit of the bed is its excellent temperature neutrality. Because of the pocketed coils and dual-layer cover and its cooling abilities, the sleeper will be able to have a  comfortable temperature. The strong airflow will fight against heat traps that usually happen in all-foam models. Apart from the great motion isolation, the bed is also virtually silent when weight is applied, which makes a good choice for couples.

The product is fairly expensive, especially when you compare it to other memory foam models. The price for a Queen size is $3,599, but there is free White Glove delivery available anywhere in the U.S. with the additional option of old mattress removal and in-home assembly.

TEMPUR-Breeze

Highlights

The TEMPUR-Breeze is the newest model from Tempur-Pedic, and it is the best mattress for pressure relief. It is available in multiple firmness options – Soft or 3 and Firm or 7 on the firmness scale, but it is also available in two designs – all-foam and hybrid. The main difference between the designs is that the hybrid has a support core made of pocketed coils, unlike the all-foam, which has a support core made of foam of course.

There are also the LUXEbreeze and PRObreeze models that promise to sleep cooler than on the regular model. The PRObreeze comes as a Medium Hybrid or a 5 on the firmness scale. All models have a dual-layer SmartClimate cover that also has a layer of phase-change material (PCM). However, the PRObreeze has a PureCool phase change material over the cover that provides the sleeper with a fairly cool sleep during the night. This particular substance will release thermal energy during the night. The comfort layer under it is made of Tempur CM+. It is essentially a memory foam layer that is enhanced to provide exceptional pressure relief and airflow. The support core is made of the brand’s signature memory foam material.

The LUXEbreeze is much cooler than the PRObreeze. It can be bought in Soft or Firm firmness setting. The design is the same as its counterpart, with one small difference – the support layer is made of the brand’s TEMPUR-APR that gives extra ventilation. Another difference is in height – the PRObreeze is twelve inches tall, while the LUXEbreeze is thirteen. Both have exceptional contouring with a system of layers made from memory foam. The price for the LUXEbreeze is $4,499 for a Queen, while the Tempur-PRObreeze is slightly cheaper, with $3,799 for a Queen.
